The promise of beautiful weather and live music attracted hundreds of people to the gardens of Druid Hill Park on Saturday, September 9. Family, friends, and music aficionados spent the evening listening to local jazz legends and enjoying the spectacular views of the Rawlings Conservatory and botanical garden. Already in its fifth year, the event was sponsored by Ben Frederick Realty Inc in partnership with the Friends of the Rawlings Conservatory.
Rawlings Conservatory & Botanical Garden
The Baltimore Conservatory opened to the public on August 26, 1888. It is the second oldest surviving glass botanic conservatory in the United States. Located inside of Druid Hill Park, the Conservatory features year-round displays of plant material in five distinct areas of the facility: the 1888 Palm House, the Orchid Room, the Mediterranean House, the Tropical House, and the Desert House. The Conservatory is typically open to the public until 4 pm. However, the visitor hours were extended for the event.
Gregory Thompkins & Friends Feat. Claire Daly
Greg Thompkins, local jazz favorite on tenor sax, invited several other talented musicians to entertain the attendees at this year’s event. Carl Filipiak, Robert Shahid, Steve Zerlin, and Lafayette Gilchrist Music joined award-winning saxophonist, Claire Daly for a full night of live jazz.
El Gringo Baltimore
Baltimore’s favorite taco truck, El Gringo Baltimore, provided guests with tacos, arepas, traditional gourmet sides, and beverages. The “chef-driven” food truck partners with local business to provide the best ingredients available to the area, such as fresh corn tortillas from Tortilleria Sinaloa. Attendees enjoyed braised pork tacos, Mexican crab cakes, and street corn drizzled in Old Bay butter.
